More about the Glass Ribbon Project
Renowned Judaica sculptor Gary Rosenthal has developed his distinctive, pink-glass Glass Ribbon Collection of handcrafted items in order to support the fight against breast cancer. But something else makes these items particularly special: their unique pink glass mosaics, created by people like you - individuals and organizations who have had their lives affected by breast cancer, and others who care and simply want to make a difference.
It adds a whole new dimension of meaning when the pink glass mosaics have been created by a group of people who have been touched by breast cancer. With our free Glass Ribbon Project, you and your organization can support a friend, honor a loved one and share a special bond with your group while joining the fight against this terrible disease. During your project, your group gathers around a table with a bag of Gary’s pre-cut pink and white glass pieces, a glass template, and a bottle of white glue.
Everything you need to create beautiful, meaningful art!
Each participant creates a glass mosaic (no artistic ability needed!) which is then returned to Gary’s studio and fired into the solid fused glass that becomes a part of the Glass Ribbon pieces. You might choose to make a Shabbat candlestick, menorah, mezuzah, dreidel or other item.
A Glass Ribbon Project is a meaningful and engaging activity for sisterhoods, clubs and other community groups, and can be customized for the needs of your group. For example, your group might choose to make it a component in a day of activities, complete with speakers and snacks - just be sure to put away the food during the glass making.
You may wish to involve a friend or relative undergoing treatment. Our Strength Stones are an excellent way to support someone undergoing treatment. You might also choose to create pink glass for sculptures to be donated to a community in need. Some groups have created an extra set of Shabbat candlesticks to be given to a sister community with our twinning option. The groups that have done a Glass Ribbon Project tell us that it's an unforgettable experience no matter what.
Items made at your Glass Ribbon event can be purchased by you, at a 25% discount off retail, to keep or to give as gifts. There's no obligation to purchase anything, although we do ask that you provide the opportunity for participants to purchase their items at your event. All unpurchased items you create will be added to the inventory of the Gary Rosenthal's Glass Ribbon line in stores and online. In addition to the individual support your group is providing for a friend or relative, a portion of the sales of all Glass Ribbon items is donated to Sharsheret, a non-profit organization that supports young Jewish women living with breast cancer.
Your Glass Ribbon Project can also be turned into a no-risk fundraiser for a specific breast cancer cause or for your own organization.
We even have a thank you gift for the host of the project!
